Following on from my previous article about preventing your points from expiring there is an easier way to monitor your award accounts and see when points will expire.
Now I can understand why people may forget forget about their account, people don’t fly often and don’t have a credit card linked to the account. It can also be a pain to log into multiple accounts to check them – imagine checking a family of fours Qantas accounts!
Enter Award Wallet, the online tool to manage your loyalty accounts. Simply create an account, enter your details and Award Wallet does the rest.
So with a few clicks you can see at a glance what points you have and more importantly, when they expire. for most schemes it can track your points, however not all are supported. Good news for Australian residents, it does a great job with Qantas and Virgin schemes.

There are weekly statements with your point balances sent out to keep you up to date.
You can find Award Wallet http://AwardWallet.com/?refCode=ktvotbcouz. The basic account will monitor 3 accounts, or unlimited on the premium account. The sign up includes a trial of the premium account.

You only lose your points if you have no activity for 18 months, activity is defined as earning or using your points. Top up of points and family transfers are not included. My advice is to download the toolbar where you can earn points every time you search or to sign up to Everyday Rewards for free (something you should do to avoid the now $89.50 charge which used to be $82.50).

To follow on, they also do not have any way to prove whether someone is your family member so you can transfer to anyone you want, just don’t call and ask them as they will tell you otherwise which is not true. Also in regards to expired points, do try to either keep them active or use them in some way as this is how qantas frequent flyer earn their profits. Their cash card is also a joke, the earn rates are low and the fees involved are way too much, they can’t even get your cards out in time when they tell you 10-14 working days. And unless you’re a silver status or above you’ll be charged $10 or 1000 points if you’ve lost your card. So just say that the card is damaged or its been stolen to get it for free.

You don’t even need to call up to transfer points, it can all be done online.

The cash card isn’t too bad – certainly better than Virgin’s card, but there are some better options around. I’ve used it myself and aside from the load time – it isn’t too bad, personal choices on credit cards though, everyone is different.
