Over here at the The Frequent Flyer, we weren’t too interested in the nitty gritty of the Qantas financial results that were posted this morning (apart from the fact it didn’t lose money), we were more interested to see the things that make our flying more enjoyable. That usually means how comfortable our bums are while sitting in a seat.
Today we see a treat of what flying on the A330’s will be like from late next year. AJ (Alan Joyce, Qantas CEO) had announced some time ago that they would be refitting the entire A330 fleet and making it one of the best in the world, if not the best. Today he has delivered the goods. The new Business Class cabin boasts a re-designed seat which offers space and privacy. The seating configuration has changed from 2-2-2 (and even 2-3-2 in some domestic planes) to a roomy 1-2-1.
The seat also features ample workspace so you can eat while you work and not have to juggle plates and laptops around.
For the red eye flights, it gets better. You can now recline the seat for take off and landing, allowing the most amount of time for sleep.
Now many of us never get to sample business class, but don’t fear, economy wasn’t left out. They will have seating similar to the A380 award winning seats.
Along with new IFE, Q streaming will also be installed allowing around 1500 hours of content.
The change was brought on by Virgin Australia’s new A330 fit outs which have been regularly hailed as the best in the country on the domestic network (See a TFFer’s review here). This raised the bar to which Qantas has responded. The winner in this is us, the traveller!
